In 2015, due to being diagnosed with dystonia, Spinney no longer puppeteered Oscar full-time on the show. Eric Jacobson became his understudy; often lip-syncing to a prerecorded vocal track by Spinney, and other times doing the voice himself.
In his original concept drawings for Oscar the Grouch, Henson imagined a spiky, grumpy-looking magenta monster. Due to the limitations of early color television, however, Oscar was redesigned with orange fur for his premiere on the first season of Sesame Street in 1969, and only changed to green for the second season.
Oscar isn't homeless. It's been established in multiple episodes and the movie Elmo in Grouchland that Oscar's trashcan is basically bigger on the inside like a TARDIS and in terms of square footage is probably the most expensive home on Sesame Street.
