Four years ago, the Villalobos Rescue Center (VRC), featured on Animal Planet's “Pit Bulls and Parolees,” moved from Southern California to New Orleans, mostly because of the opposition it faced at its original location.
As many of you now know, the dream of moving Villalobos to a new location in Tehachapi, Calif. is no longer happening. After spending countless days and dollars preparing for what was to be a paradise for Pit Bulls, Kern County did a “180” on us and denied our permits to operate at the last minute.

ATHENS, Texas (KLTV) - TV personality Tia Torres of the popular TV show Pit Bulls and Parolees and her team stepped in over the summer to help with a backyard breeding situation of wolf dogs. Nestled away on seven acres of land in Athens, Texas, is the new home to the Villalobos Rescue Center Texas.
In 2011, the shelter relocated to the Greater New Orleans in Louisiana. In 2011 Tia Maria Torres had planned with a plane to move Villalobos to a small town called Tehachapi, California, around 75 miles north of where it had operated in Agua Dulce.
His job with the VRC is about as fulfilling as it goes, and he's a popular TV figure on a beloved Animal Planet series. As of now, Earl is still fighting the good fight by looking after animals and advocating for rehabilitative programs.
Thousands of dollars and two trials later, Otis was exonerated of any wrong doing and despite his innocence, he was "run out of town". He is now court ordered here at Villalobos where from day one, he has been the kindest, best behaved and most well trained dog we've ever had.

“So with much thought, we have decided to close down two of our main satellite locations and consolidate the dogs onto a property that we have been given out in a rural country environment of Louisiana.” The new site will become the Villalobos Sanctuary.

They were twin teenage boys who were having a difficult time and needed guidance. As friends of Tia's daughter Mariah, they were brought on to work weekends at first, and then began "hanging around" more often. Because their home life was not a suitable situation, Tia took them "under her wing" and adopted them.

Pitbull Puppies reports that Marcel is still a volunteer at the Villalobos Rescue Center, but stated it's hard to gather any information on him, as he leads a very private life and holds no social media accounts.
It would take a few more years but eventually Melfi would get adopted by a wonderful woman who lived in the New Orleans area. She went over and beyond to adopt this dog even dealing with some cancerous tumors that had to be removed from Melfi. It was a match made in Heaven for our senior pooch.
